Volando despues de mas de un mes (era desde Tenerife que debido al mal tiempo no sacaba el parapente) – La Muela es un sitio maravilloso en Invierno para quitar el mono y darse unos vuelecillos majos. Tambien probe´la Swing Stratus WRC de Juan.

Back in the air after over a month without flying due to the bad weather here in Madrid. La Muela is a very nice site in winter to get a quick flying fix. I also had the chance to test fly the Swing Stratus WRC.

Para la ultima manga de 40km (circuito de balizas por el valle delante del despegue) nos espera dia azul con termicas rotas y turbulentas al principio. No se sube mucho y cuando se sube se cobra. Yo consigo volar lento al principio, luego una parte de carrera volada atacando y agresivo donde recupero varias posiciones, y una ultima parte donde me quedo bajo y atascado pero consigo llegar a goal. Finalmente un resultado bueno para mi (el 21 de la general y el 4 en clase Serial despues de 3 mangas disputadas) y unos vuelos muy bonitos y disfrutados en el calorcito de Tenerife. La unica nota negativa es que perdi’ mi GPS Garmin 60 el ultimo dia en el despegue y algun chorizo se lo puso en el bolsillo. Espero que el dinero le sirva para cubrir gastos medicos en el futuro.

The last task was a 40km race to goal in a bluw thermic day. In the beginning the lift was turbulent and broken, then it got better with the passing of the hours. I flew too slow in the beginning, then I had a good and fast central part of the race, and then a slow last part again where I found myself low and stuck but managed to get to goal. A nice result finally for me (21st Overall and 4th in the Serial class) and some very good memories of nice flying in the Tenerife’s December heat.

Hoy, con un dia que pinta bueno y condiciones que empiezan muy temprano, se retrasa la abertura de la ventana y el start point de media hora. Se pone una prueba ambiciosa de 55km con una ida y vuelta ahasta Tamaimo. Al salir se sube por todas partes como cohetes hasta 1500mt en la base de la nube. Alli hay que esperar hasta las 14.00h mas de una hora con bastante frio. Comenza la carrera y al regresar de la baliza de la potabilizadora nos encontramos con mucho viento de cara. Varios pilotos consiguen hacer la baliza del campo de futbol , regresar a la ladera, hacer la baliza de los dedos y tirarse hacia Tamaimo, pero el viento de cara es desmasiado fuerte y en este lugar, con tan pocos atterrizajes puede ser peligroso. Se decide detener la manga. Nadie pasa de los 20km y la manga no es valida. Muchos pilotos se preguntan porque con condiciones tan buenas ya a partir de las 11, siempre comenzamos la carrera a las 14.00 ( o mas tarde como el primer dia) con el riesgo que se estropee todo.

Today another good weather day in the beginning with buoyant conditions at the start point. An ambitious task of 55km is set with an out and return to Tamaimo. Cloud base at 1500mt and a long wait at base in the cold for the race to begin. When we finally start (I don´t know why, with good thermic conditions since 11 am in the morning we always have to start racing so late..) coming back from the first waypoint we are faced with a quite strong headwind. Some pilots managed to tag the waypoint and get back to the ridge, tag another one and head towards the far away waypoint of Tamaimo, but the head wind is strong and, in a place like this with few landing options can be quite dangerous. The task is stopped and since nobody managed 20km, will not be scored.

Despues de la bonita estancia en la Isla de La Palma, nos trasladamos a Tenerife donde se celebra la ultima prueba de la Liga Nacional 2009. El Sabado 5 de Diciembre con el cielo cubierto se lanza una manga de 40km que nadie consigue completar por las condiciones flojas en la ida y vuelta de la baliza de la Coperativa de Tejina. Yo consigo volar bastante bien aguantando las condiciones muy flojas y acabando el 20 de la clasificacion quedandome a 2 km de dicha baliza. Ganador de la manga fue el Canario Goyo Gonzalez (Mantra R09) con poco mas de 32km. Hoy una manga de 50km con condiciones bastante turbolentas y duras al principio de la prueba y que luego gradualmente fueron aflojando debido a la cobertura total de cielo. Mas de 10 pilotos consiguen completar la prueba, muchos se quedan sin poder hacer el planeo final a goal por la falta de actividad termica a las 16.30. Para mi hoy un dia no demasiado bueno con solo 32km (me quede´regresando de la cooperativa) y podia haber volado mucho mejor y algo mas rapido.

After the nice stay in La Palma, we moved to the South of Tenerife for the final leg of the Spanish National Paragliding League. Saturday 5th December a 40km task is set that nobody manages to complete due to the very weak conditions (sky was completely overcast). I flew rather well ,adjusting to the weak conditions and finished 20th overall. The winner of the task was Goyo Gonzalez (Mantra 09) who flew a little over than 32km (I flew 25km). Today, with better weather, a task of 50km is set. Over 10 pilots managed to complete the course with the majority landing without the chance of the final glide into goal due again to the weak conditions at 16,30 with the sky completely covered by clouds. Not a good day for me, managing only 32km and flying rather slow.

La ultima manga fue tambien detenida en vuelo poco despues de completar la primera vuelta del circuito de balizas por lluvia fuerte en la baliza del Remo. Yo probe´por primera vez la sensacion de volar debajo de la lluvia y tengo que decir que mi vela aguanto´como una campeona toda el agua que se nos caio´por encima durante unos km… Ganador del Desafio 2009 es Xevi Bonet (Boomerang 6). Enhorabuna a todos , en particular a la organizacion fantastica que se merecia mejor condiciones meteo…hasta 2010!!

The last task was also stopped shortly after completing the first lap of the route because of rain, a shame because the conditions were good and all the pilots were racing hard and having fun. Winner of the Desafio is Xevi Bonet (Boomerang 6). Congratulations to all and in particular to the organizers who deserved better weather…..hasta 2010!

Segundo dia del desafio con la manga que fue detenida en vuelo cuando los pilotos estaban a punto de dar la primera vuelta al circuito de balizas. Una nube de rotor turbulenta que se formo´justo por encima de puerto Naos pillo´a muchos pilotos que iban a hacer la balizas de los roques, y que tuvieron que barrenar fuerte para escapar de la apsiracion. La direccion de la prueba fue obligada a parar la prueba, visto el nivel 3 que dos de los pilotos del comite´de seguridad habian especificado. La manga valio´550 puntos. El ganador fue Xevi Bonet seguido por Goyo Gonzalez (Mantra R09). Xevi lidera la clasificacion despues de dos mangas

Secon day of the Desafio. Today´s task was stopped due to a very turbulent rotor cloud just above Puerto Naos during the end of the first lap. The task was validated with 550 points. Today´s winner is Xevi Bonet followed by Goyo Gonzalez (Ozone Mantra R09). Xevi Bonet (Gin) is now the leader of the desafio after 2 tasks.

Comienza el desafio 2009 con una carrera de 2 horas donde el ganador Jean Marc Malhonda (Axis Mercury) cubre una distancia de 50km seguido por Xevi Bonet (Gin Boomerang 6) con 47km. Condiciones muy buenas al principio de la prueba que comenzo´quizas demasiado tarde (el start point se abrio´a las 14.45), luego entro´el viento de Sur cruzado que fastidio´el recorrido hacia el sur de la isla en la segunda vuelta del circuito de 6 balizas que el director de la prueba Javier Lopez puso. Yo vole´bastante bien hasta la baliza del Secadero en la primera vuelta donde cometi´un error y me toco´ir a buscar termica en el primer escalon por encima del mar, pero no funcionaba y el viento deribava mucho as que despues de luchar por 40 minutos tire´la toalla y me fue a aterrizar.

The Desafio 2009 starts with the victory of the French pilot Jean Marc-Malhonda (Axis Mercury) who covers a distance of 50km in the 2 hours of the race followed by veteran Spanish Pilot Xevi Bonet (Boomerang 6). Very good conditions in the beginning with abundant lift everywhere. Later a moderate cross southern wind caused problems to the pilots during the second lap of the 6 waypoints route and only few managed to get to the El Charco waypoint and back to Puerto Naos. I had a good first lap, but I made a mistake at about 2 km from El secadero waypoint and had to go and search for lift on the first ridge above the sea, but it was late in the day and it wasn´t working good. The thermals had a strong wind drift so after 40 minutes trying to tag it I had to give up and head for the landing on the beach…

Ayer fue el dia de entrenamiento con condiciones muy buenas. El Viernes las condiciones fueron aun mejor con pilotos que pasaron de los 2000mt de altitud. Hoy empieza el Desafio con mucha partecipacion de pilotos de muchas nacionalidades. Yo seguire´el evento con cronicas, videos y fotos. Stay tuned.

Yesterday was the official training day with very good conditions. On Friday the conditions were even better with pilots flying above 2000 mt of altitude. Today is the start of the Desafio . Lots of pilots from many nationaities are present. I will be blogging the event with picture, videos and reports. Stay tuned.

Buena meteo con cielo azul y calor en esta fecha de Otono. Se lanza un manga por la ladera de 41km. Al principio condiciones muy flojas y muchos se hunden antes del start point. Yo lo hago superbien y me encuentro en cabeza al apertura del start. Vuelo a buen ritmo hasta la segunda baliza donde todavia estoy en sexta posicion cuando al regresar a la ladera me despisto, me relajo demasiado y no piso el acelerador lo suficiente y se me escapa el grupo que estaba conmigo. Hasta me pasa una vela 1-2…. En Arcones giro siempre demasiado cuando no hace falta en absoluto y asi me quedo atras. Llego a gol el 13 de 15 que llegaron. Despegaron 50 y 2 aunque llegaron a gol no le valio’ por no haber hecho una baliza o por haber perdido el track. De todas formas un vuelo muy bonito y disfrutado, especialmente en estas fechas..las ultimas aprovechables para volar en termica antes del invierno. De noche cena en Pradena con mucho vino, risas y buen ambiente y entrega de trofeos para los ganadores. Enhorabuena a todos y en particular a la organizacion que nos hace disfrutar siempre mucho y con seguridad.

Last task of the Spanish Central Paragliding League 2009, a 41km Race to Goal up and down the ridge in Arcones (Segovia). Good meteo conditions with light northerly winds and blue sky. In the beginning it was difficult to stay up (many bombed out before the start-point); then it became almost too easy after the second waypoint where you would hardly circle in lift and all you had to do was flying close to the ridge and push the speedbar. I started off very well and was in sixth position when we got to the second turnpoint but then I flew too slow and got to goal in 13th position (15 completed the task out of 50 who took off). in the evening a dinner in Pradena with lots of good Ribera wine and trophies for the winners. This year the Liga Centro flew 11 very nice tasks Well done to everybody and a special mention to the organizers, thank you.

Un dia con mucha inestabilidad, cumulos y viento frio del norte  racheado en el despegue. Se lanza una manga de 38km. Muchos deciden no despegar (yo tambien) -Llegan 3 a goal de 19 que despegaron. La manga no fue valida (se necesitaban 20). Aqui van unas fotos.

2 task disputadas, la primera de 55km (triangulo FAI) y la segunda de 46.5km (goal en Almorox) con condiciones meteo muy buenas. Para mi un fin de semana de maravilla llegando a goal en los primeros diez en ambas mangas. Vole’ muy bien comodo y disfutando muchisimo. Base a 2600-2700 mt los dos dias con unas bonitas nubes de confuencia que se formaban en la cuerda y en el llano hacia el sur. El Sabado viento debil del este-sur-este que nos ha permitido cerrar un un triangulo FAI de 50km, llegan 11 en goal – El Domingo carrera a goal hacia el sur-este hacia el pueblo de Almorox con 20 pilotos felices en goal.
