Two rock albums have had the greatest impact on myself. The first one is the 1978 “Live and Dangerous” by Thin Lizzy. I remeber seeing the live concert on the TV one afternoon while at my grandmother’s house back what must have been 1989 and I was completely taken by this coloured bass player, his particular beautiful voice and the sound of the two twins lead guitars playing together.
The second one is obviously the 1991 “Nevermind” by Nirvana. Its impact on me has been huge, very hard to describe. It just fit with everything I was at the time and said all the things I needed to hear. I’ve lived with this album for about 15 years now and I never tire of it. All its tracks are considered now rock classics. This is really the album that started it all for me - going grunge, idolizing Kurt Cobain and rebel against the sytem. This album really inserted underground Rock into mainstream pop culture.
I can also mention here as bug influences on myself 1989 “Appetite for Destruction” by Guns and Roses and 1974 Led Zeppelin’s “The song remains the same”.
I would pay the most money I can afford only porbably to see The Smiths playing together again. I imagine them opening their first gig in Manchester in 2010 with “Stop me if you think you heard this one before”..or maybe “How soon is now”…who knows..I would have tears in my eyes, that’s for sure.
