Ayer re-brefieng a 18.00…ponen una manga de 50.9km con gol en Ávila. Llegamos al despegue a las 18.40 y a las 19.05 se abre la ventana para esta carrera a gol con tiempo individual. Despegamos todos en pocos minutos (mas de 130 pilotos en el aire). Las condiciones al principio son bastante flojas y los primeros que llegan a Villatoro tienen que aguantarse en ascendencias flojas, pero de repente empieza a tirar bien aunque se nota el viento de norte bastante sostenido que deriva la térmica. Yo llegue al porto bastante pronto y casi en cabeza pero no conseguí pillar suficiente altura para pasar el Villatoro con (en mi opinión) seguridad. Estuve allí mas de 40 minutos esperando entre los 1800 y 1900 metros cuando finalmente enganche una buena que derive por encima de la vertical del puerto hasta los 2300 mt (a las 8.30 de la tarde!!!). De allí un largo planeo por encima de la nacional donde lamentablemente y a esas horas había muy pocas ascendencias (las poca que había intente aprovecharlas al máximo. Al final aterricé después de 34km y a unos 17km del gol en 2 horas y 10 minutos (puesto 57 en la clasificacion general). La mayoría de los pilotos se quedaron también entre 5km y 18 km del gol. ganador fue Mark Hayman que se quedo’ a 5km de Avila. Un vuelo inesperado a esa horas..esto es Piedrahita..

Yesterday we re-briefed at 18.00h. A task is set with goal in Avila some 50km to the east of Piedrahita. At 19.05 (!!) the window opens with more than 130 pilots all in the air as quickly as possible. Conditions are weak on the ridge en route to the pass and the first pilots who arrive there early must work hard not to bomb out. Then suddenly things improve, especially in the valley before the pass; the wind is from the north and quite robust. I arrive at the pass with the first gaggle but I have to wait some 40 minutes at 1800mt trying to find the right lift that gives me the necessary height that I consider to be safe to go over (2100 mt). In the end I managed to get to 2300mt at base (20.30h!!)  and from there a long glide in the plain towards Avila. In the end I land after 34km and some 17km short of goal after 2h ad 10minutes of very late evening flying (57 overall in the ranking). Winner of the task is Mark Hayman with 5km short of goal. No pilots reached goal, many got close.  This is Piedrahita… Stay tuned.
